Applicant tracking systems work best with resumes that use real text, predictable headings, and a simple reading order. That does not mean your resume must look plain. It means the structure should be easy for both software and recruiters to understand.
Use headings like Experience, Education, Skills, Certifications, and Projects. Creative labels can look interesting, but they make parsing less reliable.
Place your name and contact details first, then summary, experience, education, and skills. Two-column templates can still be ATS-aware when the document source keeps a clear reading order.
Do not place job titles, companies, dates, or contact details inside images. Keep icons decorative and make sure the actual words are present as selectable text.
ATS systems search for keywords, but recruiters still read the bullet. Mention relevant tools and responsibilities only when they connect to real work you performed.
Check that your PDF has selectable text, your section order is logical, and your template is marked ATS-safe when applying through strict online portals.
